WOODLANDS STALLIONS TO THE FORE ON VICBRED FINALS NIGHT

The Victorian Bred scheme Vicbred celebrated its finals night at Melton and both American Ideal and Bettor’s Delight’s progeny enjoyed Group 1 success on the key feature race night.

American Ideal’s son Centenario was seen to advantage when he defeated his rivals in the 2yo Vicbred colts and geldings final. Centenario now has over $240,000 in earnings and he led in an American Ideal quinella on the feature with his stable mate Nostra Ideal running a great place into second!

Bettor’s Delight’s son Wrappers Delight was simply too tough for his rivals in the 4yo Vicbred final for the colts and geldings. The diminutive pacer put his rivals to the sword when scorched a 26.6 quarter from the 800 metres to the 400 metres mark, which left his rivals grasping for air! Congratulations to all people involved in both these winners.

In Western Australia, the preludes for the upcoming Group 1 races for the 2yo’s of both sexes were held at Gloucester Park. In the 2yo fillies Gold bracelet Dracarys, a daughter of Bettor’s Delight was untroubled to win and in the 2yo colts and geldings Golden slipper prelude American Ideal’s sons Bletchly Park and Franco Edward staged a stirring duel to quinella the race, with Bletchly Park prevailing.

Sweet Lou has made an ominous start to his siring career in North America. His daughters where seen to the fore this week, with both Warrawee Ubeaut and She’s Allright scoring decisive victories in their Pennsylvania sires stakes heats. At The Meadowlands, he unleashed some very handy sons also. Sweet Lou is currently the leading first season sire in the USA.

MISS HALFPENNY’S CONSISTENCY REWARDED WITH GROUP 1 VICTORY

Classy New South Wales filly Miss Halfpenny capped off an excellent juvenile season with a Group 1 victory in the $125,000 Breeders Challenge final at Menangle. The daughter of American Ideal pounced on the lead and was never headed in 1.55 and change. Bred at Goulburn by Matt Day, Miss Halfpenny has now banked closed to $170,000 in stakes in her brief career. Congratulations to all involved.

American Ideal added another millionaire to his CV, when his star North American 3yo daughter Youaremycandygirl joined the elite club! He is now the sire of 13 millionaires!

Bettor’s Delight’s juveniles where impressive on Vicbred semi final night at Melton. His daughter Two Times Bettor sat in the chair to win her race in impressive fashion and his son Hurricane Harley torched his rivals by fifteen metres in his semi final and remains the horse to beat come finals night.

Sweet Lou’s first crop are underway in the Northern hemisphere and the blaze brigade are already in the winner’s stall! Amongst the winner’s have been Lyons Night Hawk – 1.53.6, Blood Money – 1.53.8 and Sweeter Lulu who is the fastest 2yo filly on a 5/8th track thus far this season. Sweet Lou also has a staggering number of qualifiers also.

Congratulations are in order for his mother Sweet Future who was inducted into the USTA Hall of Fame this week for her deeds as a broodmare.  

WOODLANDS SIRES DELIVER GROUP 1 SUCCESS AT GLOUCESTER PARK

American Ideal and Bettor’s Delight continued to achieve success at the highest level and at Gloucester Park both sires took centre stage with Group 1 victories. American Ideal’s classy daughter Rosie’s Ideal took her career earnings to $128,000 with a come from behind victory in the 3YO Westbred filly’s final. This was career win number six, congratulations to all involved in her in Group 1 victory!

Bettor’s Delights diminutive son One Off Delight led throughout to taste victory in the 3YO colt’s and gelding’s  Westbred final. Despite being testing, throughout the feature race, One Off Delight proved a class above his rivals. With $100,000 now in earnings the son of Bettor’s Delight recorded career win number six. Congratulations to all involved in this Group 1 victory.

Both American Ideal and Bettor’s Delight progeny recorded victories across the Vicbred heats contested this week past. American Ideal was seen to advantage with his 2YO son Nostra Ideal winning his Bendigo heat in stylish fashion, Bettor’s Delight had classy winners in Two Times Bettor in the 2YO fillies division, Hurricane Harley showed staggering closing speed to win his 2YO colts and geldings division and at Ballarat both Form Analyst and Wrappers Delight both recorded front running victories in their respective 4YO Vicbred heats.

FRANCO PEARL STAMPS AUTHORITY AS BEST 2YO OUT WEST

American Ideal’s 2yo son Franco Edward confirmed he is the new sheriff amongst his peers in Western Australia, with a dominant win in the Group One, $100,000 Pearl Classic at Gloucester Park. Leading all the way, Franco Edward was an effortless winner in the time-honoured classic. Congratulations to trainer/driver Kyle Harper and owner Robert Watson.

American Ideal’s millionaire son Soho Tribeca return from a spell in devastating fashion when he dealt to his rivals in the Italian Cup at Melton, he is now on track for key features in the coming months. American Ideal sired other good winners in Ideal World at Globe Derby, Foo Fighter at Newcastle and Cruz at Kilmore.

Champion stallion Bettor’s Delight’s progeny continue to break records no matter what their gait. He is now the sire of Australia’s fastest 3yo trotter in Drop The Hammer who scooted around Menangle in 1.55.3! At Gloucester Park, he sired a brace of winners, amongst them where Carter Michael, Bettor’s Aim and Tisadream. At Addington he sired classy 2yo winner Pitch Perfect who sat in the chair to win, at Melton, Rishi greeted the judge and Special Reserve led in a quartet of winner at Albion Park.

A RARE CHANCE TO VIEW BETTOR'S DELIGHT

Woodlands Stud is opening its gates to the harness racing industry for an open day on Sunday, 30th September.

It’s a rare opportunity for lovers of harness racing who wish to view the boutique breeding establishment and their imposing stallion roster.

Woodlands Stud is welcoming two new stallions, Downbytheseaside and What The Hill, to their already impressive stallion roster in the new season which makes it the perfect opportunity for potential breeders to inspect these stallions in the flesh.

Of course, it is also a chance to view champion stallion Bettor’s Delight at his Southern Hemisphere home. An opportunity that can’t be missed!

The other stallions being paraded on the day will be Sweet Lou, the handsome stallion with plenty of recent hype, gun sire American Ideal, who continues to stay amongst the top sires in Australasia and resident stallions Highview Tommy and Pegasus Spur.

“Woodlands Stud are thrilled to be able to give the industry a chance to come and see our top-class operation,” said Woodlands’ Stacey Markham.

“We see it as our way to thank the industry for their support over the years as well as giving visitors a chance to see some of the best stallions of our time.”

“We have made the date work in conjunction with Harness Racing New Zealand’s Conference and Annual Awards dinner which is being held at Alexandra Park the night before. We will put on a bus to and from Alexandra Park on Sunday for anyone who wishes to come out to the open day.”

There will be a breakfast and drinks provided and at the time of the open day there will also be an abundance of foals on the ground for viewing.

Giveaways and prizes will be drawn throughout the event for those in attendance, including a free service to one of the stallions.

SWEET LOU JUVENILES SHOWING UP IN THE USA

With the juvenile season unfolding in the Northern Hemisphere, the Sweet Lou progeny affectionally known as the ‘blaze brigade’ are cutting their teeth at the trials and the reports are very exciting. Both his son’s and daughters are showing up at the trials in blistering times. With trial winners at The Meadowlands and a brace of winners at the Gaitway in New Jersey this week, the Sweet Lou’s are the talk of the town amongst the best trainers in the northern hemisphere.

Closer to home leviathan stallion Bettor’s Delight continues to amaze with his deeds. He sired no fewer than five winners at Gloucester Park last Friday night, among the winners were Eagle Rox, Bettor Be Lively and $772,000 earner Bettor’s Fire. At Nelson he was the dominant sire over their two days of racing with Cole Porter greeting the judge twice, Kensington Kate and Feel The Money also got the chocolates.

American Ideal’s keeps racking up 2yo winners in Australia, out west his son’s Bletchley Park and Franco Edward are competing to be the best 2yo in Western Australia, both cruised to victory ahead of the Golden Slipper at Gloucester Park, The Ideal Dancer was a Goulburn winner also. In New Zealand, American Ideal produced good winners in Glenn Ford at Auckland and Saying Grace was impressive winning at Nelson.

WOODLANDS STUD SHINES AT ALL AGE SALE

Woodlands Stud would like to thank everyone who visited, inspected and purchased off us at the All Age Sale last Friday at Karaka. Every one of our 76 lots that were up for sale was sold on the day. This included the two sales toppers which were a Sweet Lou yearling colt who sold to Jean Feiss for $150,000 and a Sweet Lou weanling colt who was sold to an Australian buyer for a record breaking $120,000!

Woodlands Stud came to the fore on Harness Jewels day. Bettor’s Delight sired three winners, two of which headed home trifecta’s for the stallion. Utmost Delight was brave winning the Group 1 Woodlands Stud 4YO Diamond for the Robert’s family over Delishka and Seaswift Joy. Pat’s Delight finished off strong to win the Group 1 3YO Emerald over Sheriff and Solid Gold. His other winner was the Woodlands Stud bred Another Masterpiece who finished off a very consistent season winning the Group 1 2YO Emerald.

Bettor’s Delight continued another stellar season with plenty of other winners across the week. At Albion Park he sired a double when Miss Hoolligan and Punters Delight both greeted the judge, he repeated the effort at Shepparton with Kotare Yarra and Bettor Than That. He sired a quinella at Melton with Bossanova Bay and Trent From Punchy and at Ashburton, Nurburgring defeated his rivals.

Our other stallions kept their standard high on both sides of the Tasman this week. American Ideal sired plenty of winners in Australia, including Liukin who won at long odds at Maitland, Franco Edward won by seven metres at Pinjarra and at Melton, Isaac greeted the judge. Resident trotting sire Pegasus Spur also continued to sire winners when he picked up a double at Ashburton with Mr Fahrenheit and Peggy Nova both getting the chocolates in their races.

WOODLANDS STUD PRESENTS A QUALITY DRAFT

The Woodlands Stud stallions took centre stage at Alexandra Park on Friday night, siring half of the card between them. Pegasus Spur sired two winners with Megamind and Puma Road both trotting to solid victories. Ivana Flybye won in a mile rate of 1.55.1 for American Ideal and Bettor’s Delight had good winners in Solid Gold and Jack Nicholson.

Bettor’s Delight also had a solid week everywhere else with plenty of winners in both Australia and New Zealand. He got a treble at Addington when Tennyson Bromac, Tyron Bettor’s Ella and Star’s Tonight all won. The latter was bred and raised by Woodlands Stud. Other winners included Smooth Delight and Bobbies Delight at Globe Derby and two good trotting winners in Light Year Franco at Rangiora and Emerald Stride at Menangle.

American Ideal sired plenty of winners, including a treble at Manawatu when Yankee Diva, Apocalypse and Mogul all winning. Pay Me Overs won well at Penrith, Miss Halfpenny won at Newcastle and Mighty American greeted the judge at Addington.
