Sweet Lou is a sire who continues to kick big goals in both hemispheres. He is consistently near the top of the sires lists at all ages and his progeny are going on with it as older horses.
In the Northern Hemisphere he is consistently in the leading sires for juveniles and all age horses. His service fee continues to rise as his progeny continue to dominate many feature races.
In the Southern Hemisphere he is achieving similar feats - he has now sired over 300 individual winners across Australia and New Zealand already. His progeny going great guns in Australia in particular. He is the leading sire of 3-year-olds in Australia and continues to get winners on a daily basis.
A staggering 62% of his New Zealand bred winners have already been exported. They are highly sought after with some big prices being paid for his progeny.
His fillies are talented and his colts and geldings are making their marks and always featuring in the major juvenile races. But his biggest and best crops are starting to hit the track now and they are making a big impact. Trainers and drivers still find them great to work with, train and drive.
On the track he was a multiple world record holder and exceptional speed machine! Sweet Lou has made a stellar start to his stallion career down under, being crowned the leading first season sire in both New Zealand and Australia in the 2018/19 season. His daughter’s Sweet On Me and Double Expresso were the two leading 2YO fillies in Australasia.
Sweet Lou presents commercial Australasian Breeders with quality bloodlines not currently available. He is a complete out-cross being the son of Yankee Cruiser (Artiscape ) out of Sweet Future (Falcon's Future) who is a USTA Hall of Fame inductee. His maternal line is one of USA's strongest with with his half brother being $2.7 million winner and World Champion Bettor Sweet (Bettor's Delight) and half sister 1.51.1 mare Sweet Paprika (Artiscape)
His list of race track accomplishments is staggering;
He earned USD$3,478,894 in purses and took a lifetime mark of 1.47.0.
Sweet Lou was Dan Patch 2-year-old Pacing Colt of the year in 2011, Dan Patch US Older Pacer of the Year and Pacer of the Year in 2014
He was a winner of the elimination and final of the Breeders Crown at Woodbine, he won three legs of the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes and was a winner of 10 of his 12 freshman year starts.
At 3, he bankrolled, over a million in purses, with sire’s stakes victories and a Little Brown Jug elimination amongst his wins.
As an aged pacer his career was highlighted by his incredible ten race win streak in the North American Free For All ranks.
Amongst that win streak was six victories recorded in sub 1.48 mile rates. Sweet Lou defeated some of North America best pacers during this time including Captaintreacherous, A Rocknroll Dance, Sunshine Beach and Foiled Again
CROSSES OF GOLD
Alongside being a terrific racehorse from two until five when he was retired, Sweet Lou was brought also for the reason that he can be crossed with many Australasian mares. Being an outcross sire he works with almost every mare in New Zealand and Australasia, some of the crosses proving successful when bred with him are as follows:
BETTOR’S DELIGHT - a big reason for getting Sweet Lou down under was because he would be the perfect outcross dire for Bettor’s Delight mares. This cross seems to be his strongest in Australasia. In America it is the same, with him crossing well with mares from all of the CAM FELLA lines.
DIRECT SCOOTER - this line is proving to be a strong cross with Sweet Lou. CHRISTIAN CULLEN in particular is proving to be a very popular and successful cross with Sweet Lou with many impressive winners being bred on this cross. MACH THREE, IN THE POCKET and COURAGE UNDER FIRE mares are all also crossing well with him and seeing some great results on the track.
WESTERN HANOVER - Sweet Lou is also crossing well with mares from the Western Hanover line. Sires such as AMERICAN IDEAL, BADLANDS HANOVER, ROCKNROLL HANOVER and WESTERN IDEAL are just some examples of dam sires that are already having success when crossed with Sweet Lou. A ROCKNROLL DANCE mares are also proving to be a great cross with the sire with two of his leading 2023 3YO sons bred on this cross in Confederate and Cannibal.
