Our Stallions

Woodlands Stud has enjoyed a long tradition of offering quality stallions to Australasian breeders. With purchasing controlling interests in the SH rights to all our stallions Woodlands has grown in strength as a paramount source of precocious young group winners. With the sensational sire Bettor’s Delight and young gun American Ideal on our Pacing roster and trotting sire Pegasus Spur we are looking forward to a whole new era of standardbred breeding throughout New Zealand and Australia.

The Stud has successfully transported semen to Australia for many years and we have made available our sire's semen to all breeders. Woodlands is one of a first studs to take advantage of the efficient courier service between New Zealand and Australia operated by Geoff & Lorraine Barnes. The improvements in the delivery of chilled semen have made it even easier for Australian breeders to get their mares in foal and in most cases the semen is delivered to studs and semen bases throughout Australia in daylight hours after collection.

Woodlands contributes to the Australian and New Zealand racing scene, with regular sponsorship of race meetings. We are very proud to sponsor the following Group 1 races The Woodlands Northern Derby, The Woodlands Taylor Mile, The Woodlands Free For All, The Bathurst Gold Tiara and NZ Harness Racing Jewels. The Woodlands Northern Derby is the richest 3YO race in the southern hemishere at $600,000 in 2009.

Many harness racing clubs throughout Australia and New Zealand benefit from our sponsorships as we offer our support of the enormous effort the racing clubs make to keep harness racing successful. We also support initiatives such as the Kumeu Yearling Parade where we provide service credits to the successful exhibitors in each category.
