First Australian Winner for Dual World Champion

Lather Up is on the board in Australia with his first winner saluting the judge last night at the Redcliffe meeting. After plenty of placings with his debut crop, his first winner, OGEDIE, hit the line with purpose and won nicely in the hands of Pete McMullen for trainer Chantal Turpin. Out of the talented Somebeachsomewhere mare Argyle Beach, Ogedie was bred by Ross Patrick and looks to have plenty more wins in store after winning in a 1:58.1 mile rate.

Lather Up is a dual world champion who broke two world records and seven track records during his career. He produced world class speed from a 2-year-old to the time he retired at four. Lather Up was the equal fastest pacer in the world over a mile taking a 1.46 record which is now broken, and he also still holds the record as the fastest horse in history over one mile and one-eighth after pacing a sizzling 1.59.2 with a mile rate of 1.46.3.

Lather Up’s progeny are inheriting some of their father’s speed. His daughter Rose Run Zoey (Badlands Hanover dam) equalled the track record for 3-year-old fillies at Scioto Downs a couple of weeks ago pacing the mile in a slick 1:49.4.

Lather Up also sired two impressive Sires Stakes division winners in North America on the weekend with Bath Bomb (Real Desire dam) winning the $40,000 Kentucky Sires Stakes division in 1:50.2 and Hundred Dollar Man (Artiscape dam) taking out the $65,000 Ohio Sires Stakes division in 1:50.1

He is leaving great types in his progeny, and they are very similar to that of his grand-sire Bettor's Delight. We are looking forward to seeing his Australasian winners coming thick and fast now that he has the monkey off his back.

He remains one of the best value pacing sires in harness racing this season, standing for just $4,950 inc GST in Australia and $4,500 + GST in New Zealand.
