MORE FEATURE RACE SUCCESS FOR OUR SIRES
/IT WAS ANOTHER STRONG WEEK FOR OUR WOODLANDS STALLIONS
There was no shortage of winners for our sires over the last seven days in Australasia (57 wins total!), and included in those wins were some feature race winners for some of our sires. WHAT THE HILL (pictured above) continues to leave impressive progeny who are getting the job done at all levels, BETTOR'S DELIGHT sired his latest talented feature race winner, DOWNBYTHESEASIDE's progeny continue to step up and demand attention and SWEET LOU's juveniles are winning plenty of races in the lead up to some upcoming feature races.
We are very proud of our stallion roster and the success they are giving their loyal breeders and supporters. See some sire highlights from the last seven days below:
WHAT THE HILL
WHAT THE HILL extended his dominance as the Leading Sire of 4-year-old Trotters in New Zealand and also gained his latest feature race winner at Addington Raceway on Thursday night. His son BET N WIN trotted to victory in fine fashion to win the Listed Future Wealth Sires Stakes Aged Classic. The four-year-old gelding now has four wins and three placings from his 11 starts. He was bred and raised by What The Hill's loyal supporters in Breckon Farms who continue to race him alongside his current ownership group, he was driven by Bob Butt and trained by David & Stacey White.
DOWNBYTHESEASIDE
There was no shortage of wins for the progeny of DOWNBYTHESEASIDE over the weekend. They are continuing to step up and make themselves known on the racetrack. Among his list of winners were:
AARDIEBYTHESEASIDE (Christian Cullen dam) who was having her first start in Australia since her last start Group 1 win in New Zealand. She made it a winning one taking out the Group 2 $75,000 Empress Stakes. She was bred here at Woodlands Stud before being sold for $1,500 as a weanling. She is now the winner of nine races and over $260,000 in stakes. Congratulations to her connections including Team Bond who train her and own her alongside Mike Tanev.
BEACH FLYBYE (Caprock dam) was another Woodlands Weanling graduate by DOWNBYTHESEASIDE who saluted the judge over the weekend. He made it back-to-back wins when taking out the $40,000 Regency Car Southern Cups Final at Invercargill yesterday. He was a $16,500 purchase by Stonewall Stud in 2020 and they remain in the ownership with Mike Tanev, he is trained at their stables by Steve and Amanda Telfer and was driven by reinsman Tim Williams. He has now won seven races and just under $85,000 in stakes.
SWEET LOU
SWEET LOU continues his great run with progeny impressing right across Australia and New Zealand. Last week saw many highlights from his 21 Australasian winners including a brace of 2-year-old winners for the sire including three fillies:
LET HER ROLL (Rock N Roll Heaven dam) won by 6 metres on debut at Ballarat
SWEET MAGGIE MAE (Rock N Roll Heaven dam) also winning on debut at Ashburton
OUR SWEET DELIGHT (Bettor's Delight dam) won at Albion Park by 6.7 metres
BETTOR'S DELIGHT
The King of harness racing, BETTOR'S DELIGHT wasn't going to let his younger roster mates have all of the success last week. His up and coming son BUILT FOR GLORY (Art Major dam) took home the Group 2 Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes at Invercargill yesterday. It was the fifth win in nine starts for the 3-year-old pacer who was bred by the Cournane's, trained by Steve and Amanda Telfer and was driven by Tim Williams.
AMERICAN IDEAL
AMERICAN IDEAL's star son TRIPLE EIGHT scored his 24th career win and took his earnings to just shy of $800,000 when winning at Melton on Saturday night. The gelding was bred by Plant Racing Ltd who still share in the ownership and he is trained by Jess Tubbs and was driven by Greg Sugars.
