What The Hill Leading the Way
/Young stallion What The Hill is off to a great start for 2023 and currently sits at the top of the sire leaderboard for 3-year-old trotters in New Zealand. Just one month in he has had four starters who have accumulated a win, four seconds and three thirds.
This follows on from a successful debut crop last year when he was third overall trotting sire of two-year-olds with classy winners like Luby Lill and Kiss And Run. In Australia he also sired the Group 1 winner Dreambigaimhigh and three other strong winners from a small first crop of 16 foals.
He boosts a tremendous pedigree being the son of champion trotting sire Muscle Hill and out of a full-sister to leading trotting sire Majestic Son, but he also made a name for himself on the race track with 12 placings including defeating the open class trotters as a 3-year-old. He also set a lifetime best mark of 1:54.1S.
Trainers have nothing but praise for the sire and with some very strong books of mares in New Zealand since his arrival, he could very well be the next big sire in square-gait history.
His stock have been well received at yearling sales across both hemispheres and he was leading trotter sire overall in New Zealand with his first crop in 2021, with a top lot selling for $190,000. He looks set to have another strong NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale this year with six entries in the Auckland Sale at Karaka on Sunday, 19th February 2023 and 10 lots at the Christchurch Trotters Sale on Monday, 20th February 2023.
