Woodlands Stud back Fillies & Mares Racing at Addington

In a push to further their commitment to the future of the breeding industry in New Zealand, Woodlands Stud are proud to announce that from this week onwards they will be sponsoring 41 fillies and mares races at Addington Raceway this season.

This comes at a crucial time when giving our female horses more opportunities to ensure less are being exported overseas is vital for the future of our foal numbers.

“Supporting fillies and mares races has become a major focus for us, as by providing our females the opportunity to race for decent stakes, against their own sex nearly every week gives them a bigger incentive to remain in New Zealand and therefore be available to be bred from once they retire from racing,” said Stacey White of Woodlands Stud.

Addington Raceway continues to programme fillies and mares races on the majority of its programmes.

“The ability for these horses to race their own sex allows many to continue to race and then go on to the breeding barn. We remain supportive of this and are delighted that Woodlands Stud share the same aspiration,” said Addington Raceway’s Darrin Williams.

In conjunction with these fillies and mares races Woodlands Stud also remain the sponsor of the Group 2 Trotting Oaks held at Addington in November.

“We have had a long and successful partnership with Addington and we thank them for providing us with the opportunity to enhance our support of their premier venue and sponsor these races.”

“Woodlands Stud get a tremendous amount of loyalty from the industry throughout Australasia and we work extremely hard to ensure that we give back by supporting the industry from grass roots through to the elite level. This announcement just reinforces that,” said White.

There will be a variety of age groups and ratings for these races. The first of the 41 races is being held this Thursday night, a 2-year-old fillies event which has attracted a nice field of 10 fillies.
