Weekly Highlights - 3/10

Some sire highlights from the past week:

-          SWEET LOU’s unbeaten son NEVER ENDING won the Group 1 Golden Slipper in Perth. He is now six from six with $274,000 in the bank! Congratulations to his connections including trainer Justin Prentice and driver Gary Hall Jnr

-          DOWNBYTHESEASIDE’s progeny continued to shine in North America over the weekend when the Ohio Shires Stakes Finals were held. He sired three of the four $300,000 pacing features and finished second in the other. BYTHEMISSAL (Western Terror mare) and SEA SILK (Bettor’s Delight mare) claimed the 3YO divisions and his daughter MCSEASIDE (McArdle mare) claimed the 2YO Fillies Division.

-          SWEET LOU sired his 38th individual 2YO winner in Australia when LUSAKA won at Pinjarra last week. This takes him 10 clear of his nearest rival. He is also leading 2YO sire overall with over $1 million in stakes!

-          Woodlands Sires are shining in both Hemisphere’s, after the weekend of racing our four pacing sires with progeny of racing age, BETTOR’S DELIGHT (1), AMERICAN IDEAL (3), SWEET LOU (5) and DOWNBYTHESEASIDE (8) are now all in the top eight all aged sires in North America. A huge feat, especially for DOWNBYTHESEASIDE who has just two crops of racing age!

-          Our own syndicate filly KAHLUA FLYBYE impressed on a quick back-up at Cambridge when she took out a heat of the Dunstan Sires Stakes 2YO Fillies. The daughter of BETTOR’S DELIGHT went a NZ Record time for 2YO fillies over 1700m pacing a quick 1:59.7 (MR: 1:53.3). A big thank you to the Telfer/Stonewall Team and Tim Williams for a lovely drive.

-          There was a SWEET LOU double at Addington Raceway on Friday night. WARRIOR CHIEF, the first foal out of talented mare Here We Go Again won nicely at good odds for the Gameson’s and 2YO DARE DEVIL saluted the judge for the All Stars team later in the night.
