WOODLANDS NEWS | OVER $50 MILLION IN PROGENY EARNINGS!
/We are forever proud of the stallion roster that represents Woodlands Stud and they continue to pave their own ways of success with their progeny really making an impact on racetracks across the world! An example of this is that our seven stallions Australasian progeny have won their connections in excess of $50 million in stakes money since the start of 2023.
Showing that sharing the dream with Woodlands Stud is well worthwhile in both exciting racing prospects and money earners as well. Our sires with more than one racing crop are punching well above their weight in the Siring Leaderboards across both hemispheres and are consistently right at, or near, the top.
The last week has seen more highlights, including the 100th individual Australasian winner for Downbytheseaside and Bettor's Delight progeny gaining more feature race success, read more on these as well as some other highlights below:
BETTOR'S DELIGHT
The domination of Bettor's Delight and his progeny continues as we near the middle of 2024. He remains the leading All Age Sire across New Zealand, Australia and North America and also had a very good last week of results across Australasia, including 22 winners:
Star pacer LEAP TO FAME (Art Major dam) was back in the winners circle after another impressive Listed grade win at Albion Park on Saturday night. It was his 37th victory and was a trial run at a stand start as his connections look towards a New Zealand Trotting Cup campaign in November.
STREET HAWK (Falcon Seelster dam) is another son of Bettor's Delight doing some great things in his career. He picked up another feature race on Friday night in the Listed York Cup at at Northern on Saturday night. It was the gelding's 11th career win. He was bred and raised at Woodlands Stud before being sold through NZB Standardbred as a yearling to Regan Todd for $45,000.
Bettor's Delight sired a quartet of winners at Gloucester Park on Friday! the winners were, Breckon Bred PRINCE OF PAIN (Christian Cullen dam), DIEGO (Christian Cullen dam) who was bred by Syd and Shona Brown and two Woodlands Stud bred and raised horses in JETT STAR (Falcon Seelster dam) and BETTOR CLASS (Christian Cullen dam)
He also had multiple doubles throughout the week, including two at Albion Park (Tuesday and Saturday), and one each at Club Menangle & Northam Harness Racing Club.
DOWNBYTHESEASIDE
Downbytheseaside sired his 100th individual winner in Australasia yesterday. Our exciting young sire also had a win a day in the last seven days with seven winners across the week total.
DOTELDO (Rocknroll Hanover dam) was the horse who brought up the 100th individual winner for the progeny of Downbytheseaside in Australasia. The 3-year-old filly did it in style, winning by over 20 metres. It was also a quinella for him with LET ME AT IT (Bettor's Delight dam) pacing into second. Doteldo was bred by Burwood Stud.
Another impressive winner for the week, was his 3-year-old filly LUNETTA (Art Major dam) who was a 24m maiden winner at Pinjarra. She was bred by P Gilroy.
In New Zealand, MAKO (American Ideal dam) was impressive when winning his second race at his second start at Alexandra Park. The gelding was bred and raised at Woodlands Stud before being sold through NZB Standardbred as a weanling for $7,500 to Brent Donnelly.
SWEET LOU
Sweet Lou's fantastic run continued last week with another 13 winners added to his totals for the season. Included in these results was a double at Pinjarra with HI SUGA RUSH (Bettor's Delight dam) and PENNY BLACK (Rocknroll Hanover dam) both saluting the judge. Penny Black was bred by the Peirson's in new Zealand and Hi Suga Rush was bred at Woodlands Stud. Sweet Lou remains the clear leader of 3-year-old's in Australia for 2024 by both stakes and individual winners and he is also the current leading sire of individual 2-year-old winners, with 15 already saluting the judge.
WHAT THE HILL
WHAT THE HILL had a siring double in New Zealand on Friday with two of his progeny greeting the judge in the South Island both were 3-year-olds and helped to close the gap on the siring leaderboard where he sits second. He is leading the way in both the 2-year-old and 4-year-old leaderboards and is second overall with just three crops on the track, only behind the well-established Majestic Son.
BLACK PAT (Dream Vacation dam) saluted the judge for the second time at Invercargill on Sunday. Black Pat still holds the New Zealand record for 2400m Fillies Stand which she trotted in 3:11.5 last season.
BRAVEHEARTHIGHLANDER (Muscle Mass dam) also scored his second win when winning at Addington Raceway on Friday night. This was also a quinella for the sire with KAIRAKI SPUR (Pegasus Spur dam) finishing in second.
AMERICAN IDEAL
Eleven winners across Australasia for American Ideal last week. A couple of highlights were:
Two siring doubles for the week, one at Gloucester Park on Tuesday with YANKEE LINCOLN (Mach Three dam) and SHES A MARE (Safely Kept dam) and the other at Albion Park on Saturday night with ITS EBONYNIVORY (Dream Away dam) and MAHINDI (Mach Three dam)
One of American Ideal's headline son's TRIPLE EIGHT was back in the winner's circle at Melton on Saturday night. It was the 25th win for the 9-year-old and took his career earnings to over $817k. He was bred by Plant Racing Ltd.
LATHER UP
For the first time in his siring career, Lather Up is set to call New Zealand home. After starting his Australasian siring career in Victoria under the wonderful care of Kath McIntosh and her team at Llowalong Farms, Woodlands Stud have made the decision to base our whole roster at our Auckland farm for the upcoming season. Lather Up is a sire who is just starting his career off as his debut crop hit the track in Australasia. His fee remains unchanged, and he continues to be one of the best value pacing sires in the industry.
SPEEDING SPUR
Speeding Spur is a champion trotter in his own right, who won nine Group 1 races during his career. He won over $1 million in stakes and won feature races in New Zealand, Australia and North America. His debut crop are just starting to hit the track, and while small on numbers, trainers are very positive about the progeny. His fee also remains unchanged and great value for the upcoming season.
