WILMAS MATE TAKES GROUP ONE VICTORIAN DERBY
/Girl power was on display when outstanding filly Wilmas Mate was too strong for all her rivals in the Group One Victorian Trotters Derby at Maryborough. The daughter of sire Pegasus Spur put her rivals to the sword when she took over midrace and left them standing still with a track record run. In a break out 3yo season, she recorded career win number eleven and has now bankrolled over $200,000 in stakes. The Breeders Crown is now at her mercy. Congratulations to all concerned. Great result for Pegasus Spur who has now sired the last two Victorian Derby winners and goes about his work with little fanfare.
Another big week for champion sire Bettor’s Delight. The highlight was a quartet of winners at Gloucester Park, among them were Three Bears, Say It Now and Char Do Neigh. He may have unearthed another handy 2yo in Hafter who remains unbeaten in four starts, following victory at Hobart. American Ideal’s appears to have another top filly in Canada. Candlelight Dinner is undefeated after she paced 1.52.2 to win at Mohawk for leading conditioner Cassie Coleman. She is staked for a big 2yo season.
Closer to home American Ideal’s top 4yo son Ideal For Real was a winner at Melton and now looks to the Breeders Crown as nominal favorite for his division. At Gloucester Park he sired a double when Billie’s A Star and American Boy greeted the judge and at Albion Park Ideal Scott edged closer to $800,000 in earnings with a 1.53.5 victory.
